Our new dandelion soap is here after MONTHS of design and creation. My goal for this new soap was to create and offer an unscented bar that is gentle on the most sensitive of skin. I did not want to just offer an unscented version of our standard bar, but instead a luxury bar truly designed to be easy on the skin.
The Dandelions
The dandelion soap starts in the spring. When the yellow dandelion flowers are blooming, I pick ice-cream buckets full and place them in my dehydrator for drying. Drying the flowers lets me store them for use throughout the year and prevents molding when infusing oils. Once dry, I place the flowers in a half-gallon canning jar and cover them in olive oil. The olive oil is infused with the dandelions for at least two months before straining and soapmaking.
The Recipe
This soap is different from my standard bars recipe due to a different combination of oils. The Golden Dandelion Soap has a high amount of olive oil which makes for a less 'stripping' soap. Since olive oil does not provide a huge amount of lather, coconut oil is also included to bring a bubbly lather and cleansing properties to the soap. The final oil in this soap is mango butter. Mango butter helps with hardness of the soap and adds luxurious conditioning and and moisturizing values.
I've packed this soap with multiple anti-inflammatory ingredients. Honey, turmeric, dandelions, and of course goat milk all play a role in making this soap as gentle and perfect for those with skin sensitives.
The Timeline
Because this recipe uses so much olive oil to create a 'Bastile Bar' it is soft for weeks after cutting and takes 2-3 months to be ready to be used. The overall timeline to make this soap is between 5-6 months at a minimum. We think it is worth the wait!
